The List

Everyone and their aunt has made suggestions over what we should do while living in London. Solicited (or more common, unsolicited) recommendations are getting their place right here as an ever-expanding and updated list. Some of these might actually be of interest or it could be that I'll have a day where I'm in the exact mood required to try Activity X. A few of these I've done already, but it might be amusing to do them again as a "local." We'll see. Regardless, I'll link up a post if I get to 'em.

Have a suggestion for something I ought to do? A place I ought to check out? A to-die-for store? The best ____ I'll ever eat? Or maybe some place outside of London worth seeing? Let me know by email or comment below. I'll add it to the list!

  1. I found that the best way to get over homesickness is to eat kraft dinner. There are two main sources in London, both on Maiden Lane in Covent Garden:

    The Canada Shop: http://www.angloaustraliantrading.com/Canadashop/CAdefault.aspx

    Maple Leaf Pub: http://www.realpubco.com/other/pub-food/maple-leaf-covent-garden/pid-C3061?utm_source=g-places&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=pubs

  2. I suggest that you add pubs/restaurants to your list:

Waxy O'Connor's in China Town is an amazing sight. http://www.waxyoconnors.co.uk/index.php/welcome-to-waxys-london

The Queen Mary is a pub on a boat on the River Thames. http://www.caniseethat.co.uk/QueenMary/index.html

The White Hart is a nice day out on the river near Kew. Just be careful that you don't sit too close the edge when the tide comes in! http://www.youngs.co.uk/pub-detail.asp?PubID=461

The Fat Duck in Bray, Berks. The best restaurant in the world. http://www.thefatduck.co.uk/

  3. If you're looking for inspiration on places to visit in and around England, the Beeb did a great show a while back called Great British Railway Journeys (they did a second season but I haven't watched it yet). Worth a watch (let me know if you can't find it).

  4. The Tower of London was definitely pretty cool (or you could just check out our photo album & avoid the trip - Chris took photos of literally everything).

Go to "Bates Hatters" on Jermyn St to check out the stuffed kitty with the fancy hat.

And for the love of pete eat some bread pudding!
